Unusual Rigging and Prolyte at the Convention Centre Dublin 01-09-2010

Unusual Rigging and Prolyte at the Convention Centre Dublin

Opening September 2010, the Convention Centre Dublin is Ireland's newest purpose-built, international conference and event venue. In addition to a 2,000 seat auditorium and banqueting facilities for up to 3,000 guests, the venue has two exhibition halls offering a total of 4,500 sq m of exhibition space. Unusual Rigging designed, engineered and installed a particularly sophisticated flying system, using Prolyte truss, in each of the halls.

The systems in the two halls feature a grid of individual square trusses and use a total of 1150m of black powder coated Prolyte S52, plus 190 black powder coated S52 box corners. The grids cover the ceilings of the halls, are fitted with a total of 132 chain hoists and can be controlled from a single point. Mark Priestley, project manager for Unusual Rigging, explains: “Each truss can be set at any height and any angle desired and each has a central sail that can be used to define the ceiling height or as a bounce and diffuser surface for lighting.”

Lee Forde, technical director of the CCD, is delighted with the system: “Using their vast knowledge and experience, Unusual Riggings has helped create fit for purpose flying systems in all three main rooms. It was extremely well planned and thought out.”
