Space Mountain Mission 2 In order form our distributor Lightco in the Netherlands, Prolyte has made a tunnel construction for the last 55 metres of the attraction “Space Mountain” in a Theme park in Paris. The upgraded attraction has opened its doors under the name “Space Mountain Mission 2, on April 9th 2005, with a special opening concert by DJ Tiësto.
Lightco and Prolyte have teamed up before to do an installation in this world famous Theme park, the Rock ‘n Roller coaster. As this cooperation was very much valued by both the companies, as well as by the responsible team of the Theme park, Lightco and Prolyte were asked to do this new installation. The tunnel construction for Space Mountain is used to mount different lighting effects, which must generate the effect of a travel to the end of the universe. The first track “Hyper Gate” gives the illusion of being dragged into a black hole. The “Hyper Gate” is a cone shaped construction starting with a diameter of 7 m and ending at 4 m depth. The construction is made of black-coated aluminium tubes to which an aluminium mesh is welded. On this mesh Birket strobes in two colours are mounted. After the “Hyper Gate” the visitors reach in the “Hyper space Trenche”, a time zone tunnel or the, so called, super nova This second part of the journey is a tunnel shaped construction of 7 metres high, in which spirals run up to a height 100cm. On this part of the structure an arched construction is placed at each 90cm. The first 35 metres have U shaped profiles which fit Neo-flex led tubes in a helical shape. The last part is again an aluminium mesh with Birket strobes and High End data flashes. All lights are supplied and installed by Lightco. To live up to the strict demands from the Theme park for a so-called “free envelope” Prolyte used a special mould that was placed on the track. Over this mould, the construction was build. Further, a large part of the tunnel construction has sides that can be removed easily on locations that act as evacuation way in case of an emergency. By making the sides removable a flight way conform the regulations was created. To be able to assemble the complete construction within the set timeframe, most parts of the structure were made pre-fab in Prolyte’s factory in Leek, after which they were transported to Paris. On location the complete construction was welded, assembled, coated and tested. To make this possible Prolyte has set up a mobile workshop on location, including all necessary welding gear. |
