Ground support system for Teatre Lliure The Teatre Lliure was set up in 1976 by a group of theatre professionals working in the independent theatre. Since then it has become renown for its emphasis on text-based theatre. The Teatre Lliure was one of the founders in 1989 of the Union of European Theatres, a fact which demonstrates the company’s commitment to working beyond the confines of its own theatres and to taking its shows on tour to festivals far and wide. The Teatre Lliure has visited many European and a number of Latin American countries and, as part of its new phase, aims to work much more on national and international co-productions such as those already undertaken in the Hebbel Theater of Berlin, the Salzburg Festival, the Festival Grec of Barcelona, and elsewhere.
Since March 2003 Àlex Rigola has been the director of the Teatre Lliure and during this period the theatre’s repertoire of drama, complemented by a good dose of contemporary dance, live music and many different types of innovations, has become fully established. The Teatre Lliure is currently one of the leading references of the Spanish theatre scene. For the play Richard III, which will tour Spain and Italy from July 2005 till June 2006, the Teatre Lliure has bought a Prolyte Ground support system, based on S100F and S52F truss. Fresnel, distributor in Spain for Prolyte, delivered the system. The ground support system, including 4 Prolyft hoists, will accommodate both the orchestra as well the scenic design. As the play will tour several cities, much attention was given to both transport volume and building speed. Prolyte was able to compete successfully on both factors, due to the compactness of the folding truss and the coupling methods of the different truss parts. “The easy of assembly is really astonishing, we have never worked with a system like this and still the first time we build the system, in front of the theatre, it took 6 crew members only 3,5 hour to build the complete system. Also the system is very flexible, we can use in a set up pf 14 x 6 m. with towers of 9 m high, or change the dimensions of the grid an tower. We can go up to as much as 36m. wide and towers of 12 m. high, which gives us a potential of many different settings, adaptable to the circumstances and environment. “ For more information go to : www.fresnel.es or www.teatrelliure.com |
