#THROWBACKTRUSSDAY we go back to September 2018, where Prolyte’s 77 meters long Mammoth M145RV Trusses were used at the the OWL Arena (previously Gerry Weber Stadium), in Germany.
The OWL Arena is a modern multifunctional arena that was originally designed as a tennis stadium for Germany's largest ATP lawn event, the Gerry Weber Open. The operator collaborated with the stadium Management & Event to convert it into a rigging area. This enables the tennis stadium with 11.500 seats to attract other type of events. The stadium has a slidable roof that can be closed in 88 seconds, this can give a technical challenge by inserting the loads.
After several conversations it was decided to install two flexible heavy-duty truss lines as an additional pre-rig to enable further central suspension points. An installation of about 77 meters long Prolyte Mammoth M145RV Truss, which is considered as one of the largest aluminum truss spans that has ever been made.
The two sections of Prolyte Mammoth Truss are each suspended at their two ends and attached to the roof structure without impairing the function of the slidable roof. "The advantage of this solution is that you can easily check all load profiles over and over again", explains Prolyte account manager Jens Kannacher. "When using another crossbeam, significantly more suspension points or counterweights should be installed. Thanks to the Prolyte Mammoth Truss, we only have to manage two points. At the top, other trusses can be placed which allow a free choice of the distance between individual suspension points. "
The installation was premiered at the end of September 2018. "We were already able to successfully hold numerous tour premieres and kick-off concerts, with the implementation of this project, a progressive investment has been made in the Gerry Weber Stadium," concluded the stadium manager.
